Having decided we wanted to move to New Zealand from the United States, we had to navigate the immigration process. I quickly learned that having an experienced lawyer with immigration specialization was imperative.
While, initially, we believed the process would be rather straightforward, the nuances of the applications, procedures and decisions were actually rather complicated. And the stress of the process can be made worse when you are moving your family to a new country.
Fortunately, we met Paulo Garcia from Corban Revell. I was immediately confident with Paulo when he seemed to understand all the variables and timing related to our situation; and he was able to provide precise answers and examples for all the different scenarios. It was obvious that Paulo had dealt with similar clients, which further boosted our confidence. I also took comfort in that Corban Revell is a sizable full service law firm, with a strong and established reputation. During the process you have to hand over quite a bit of personal and financial information for the applications and it was important to us that we liked our lawyer and the firm they represented.
Midway through the process, I was surprised how many questions I ended up having related to decisions we had to make. A few examples include: the various ways one can and cannot invest one’s money for the investor category, the timing of related work visas for one’s spouse, and the requirements that certain schools have for documentation and completed immigration status before your kids can attend school. These questions and others like it all affected us during the process, and required advice.
We would definitely recommend Corban Revell and Paulo Garcia to any person considering immigrating to New Zealand.
